About Gijs

I have more than 22 years experience as a journalist, communicating to a variety of audiences. I have worked as a journalist for all sorts of media: daily, weekly, radio and internet. The past few years I wrote about it-trends, databases, large scale business software, and Unix, Linux and open source software. I appeared in several Dutch TV news and radio programs.

My office uses mostly Debian GNU/Linux. Currently this runs on a Thinkpad Z61m

I am 42 (in 2009). I have a major in Physical Geography from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam & a graduate degree in Journalism from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. I will sometimes be found at computer science classes at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, but if this will ever lead to a Bsc. remains to be seen.

I'm the news editor of the European Commission's 'Open Source Repository and Observatory'.
